Wow. I just happened to look for this song when reminiscing of my childhood years spent in Singapore. What a coincidence to find this uploaded by a sixties kid from right there!! Thank you very much Andy for the shared memories.

As a toddler, this song would play on a continuous loop and was the sweetest memory that I cherish to this day. Didn't we all break out and join in the final giggles and laugh with the singer!! I'm chuckling to myself already!!

When I was like 4 years old, I heard this song for the first time. (I'm 35 now). Coming from a family of singers, at that time, I thought this was sung by my uncle, Uncle James, and my cousin Lara. 

We live in the suburbs of Mumbai, India. The audio cassette was brought by my uncle from the gulf. And so was the audio cassette recorder/player. We sang and recorded several songs back then. 

It brings back such good memories. The lyrics are so beautiful. I'd love to go back in time and just dwell in that time in a loop forever. I guess heaven must be like that and much more!

I was brought up in Singapore, and this song was the first I remember my parents playing - there was a 'B' side, but I am not sure what it was. We moved back to UK in the early Sixties, and I have never found anyone else who remembers it. The fact you have placed it as Singapore 60's make sense to me - I have now downloaded it and it brings back happy memories of childhood. Thank you <3

"Hello Andy,

My family and I met Johnny Tillotson by chance at the Garden Seafood Restaurant in Goodwood Park Hotel in December 1984. We were hosting a dinner there for some relatives. Johnny Tillotson was there coincidentally too for dinner. He was in Singapore then for his concert and these were fairly regular around the 80s and 90s. 

He obliged our request to taking the photo with my family when I approached him. The songs he sang at his concerts were mainly his 60s hits. I can’t remember the ticket prices."

When I wrote an article earlier on the 1st April 2025 regarding the passing away of Johnny Tillotson, good friend and blog reader Chew HH sent me the above picture and mentioned that he met the pop singer at a dinner in the hotel.  

When I asked him for details he provided them as always; a quiet and pleasant friend, he is. As the handshakes were going round the table and cameras were popping flash bulbs [we had no smart phones then], the little girl started crying. So there you have the photograph above, frozen in time since its appearance about 40 plus years ago. 

Our famous singer could have sung many hits for the baby: Earth Angel, Send Me The Pillow, Dreamy Eyes, Heartaches By The Number, Princess Princess, Cling To Me... but I thought the one below could be an appropriate one.

When I asked JK if he could do a write-up like his contemporary HH Chew about the pop concerts he attended he agreed. It took a while but here they are my dear readers, so many you would not believe. But how could he do it? 

I’m like *HH Chew [connection below], chasing concerts and bands and singers! It's mainly due to my home, a building beside the Odeon Cinema in North Bridge Road, opposite Jubilee Theatre near the Capitol Cinema and walking distance to Cathay Cinema. The amusement centres in Singapore 60s were close to each other in this part of town where I lived.

And coincidentally, the girls-only school, the Convent of the Holy Infant Jesus [CHIJ] was right smack in the middle of these movie theatres. And the young ladies would come out after school, at about one in the afternoon, in their white and hue blue pinafores.

The school is also in the same neighbourhood at Victoria Street.

During the late 1950s and the early 1960s whenever they launched a show there's a hue and cry publicity where the actors and actresses involved, will come and sing a song or two before the show and super stars like Grace Chang [Ge Lan] 葛蘭 - 說不出的快活 電影《野玫瑰之戀 of Ja Jambo fame would have an autograph session at Level 4 [called the Hollywood Room] at the Odeon building. She would have come all the way from Hong Kong. Imagine the crowds that evening with North Bridge Road jam packed like the cinema itself!

On the other hand we had pop singers like, Johnny Lion and the Jumping Jewels from Holland performing at the Odeon. Remember them? He sang 'Let's Make a Habit of This', 'Judy', 'I Like It' and a host of other hits.

They came from Holland.

This cinema and others were all under the Cathay Organisation and the movie stars Hayley Mills and her father, John Mills came and appeared on stage before the shows. And they still keep coming today, the big stars like the Rolling Stones, Cpldplay, Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift.

Then across the road at Jubilee Cinema, which screened mostly Chinese shows had the Canto [Cantonese] stars appearing, with the likes of Fong Po Po and Chan Poh Choo. Today it's the National Stadium, where groups like Black Pink, top K-Pop groups from South Korea come bob bob bopping along.

Further down the road towards Shenton Way and opposite the St. Andrew's Cathedral stands the Shaw Brother's cinema group irreplaceable, Capitol Theatre. The great Bai Kwang, Old Shanghai diva performed on stage too. I managed to attend. Chinese, English stars! I love them all.

And over at the Cathay, a short distance away, Frank Sinatra, one of the best US 60s crooners, was there. He was truly my favourite and I managed to catch him in his room at the Cathay Hotel above the cinema and got his autograph too after school. I was studying nearby at St. Joseph's Institution.

Crossing to the East side of Singapore, at Guillemard Road. It was concerts galore when Cliff Richard and the original Shadows came. This group included Hank Marvin, Bruce Welch, Tony Meehan and Jet Harris. 

There was Pat Boone and Debbie Boone. It was a wonderment with tickets costing Fifty Cents to One Dollar for hard step-like concrete seats at the Badminton Hall and at the Happy World Stadium.

But it did. Now in Singapore concerts cost so much more. A coming one will cost pop music enthusiasts more than a thousand dollars per ticket!

The best deal I experienced was a three-in-one concert for one dollar at the Badminton Hall where I witnessed the Rolling Stones, Manfred Mann and The Kinks. Now that was a record breaker indeed [pun intended].

And I managed to get all their autographs!

Many stars do a transit stop in Singapore here before heading Down Under in Kangaroo county, Australia. These pop stars included: Helen Shapiro, Millie Small, Blue Diamonds, Anneke Gronloh, The 3 Degrees, Stylistics, Manhattan Transfer, Herman’s Hermit and Gilbert O'Sullivan.

Yes, I have attended a fair number of  concerts. To name some viz. Cliff Richard, Tom Jones, Olivia Newton-John, Engelbert Humperdinck, Michael Jackson, Bee Gees, Pat Boone, Skeeter Davis, Johnny Tillotson, Brian Hyland, Blue Diamonds, Johnny Lion, 

Kenny Roger, Paul Simon & Art Garfunkel, Beach Boys, Madonna, Celine Dion, Tony Orlando, Julie Rogers, Herman’s Hermit, Freddie and the Dreamers, Julie Rogers, Paul Anka, Leo Sayer, Brotherhood of Man, Andy William, Ray Charles, The Supremes, The Osmonds, Eric Clapton, Sheena Easton, Manfred Mann, Frances Yip, Jacky Cheung etc. 

I may have missed some names. There are some artistes whom I have attended more than once eg Tom Jones, Olivia Newton John, Engelbert Humperdinck, Skeeter Davis, Pat Boone and Cliff Richard probably about 5 times.

Some of the artistes those days were performing exclusively at Shangri-La’s Tiara Lounge, if you may recall. The Supremes, Ray Charles, Andy William performed in one of their function rooms. Some performed at The Neptune and Mandarin’s Kasbah and Belvedere.

Most of the shows were seen in Singapore during the 1970's. The charges increased during the 1980's and, with a dinner thrown in, it was *$200 per head at most restaurants.

*Today it's more than $300 for only a back seat in the galleries.

It's not anytime that you know an international pop singer and become great friends. Autographed pictures poured into my iPhone as HH Chew explained he and his wife's close contact with Ms Skeeter Davis. 

He is the quiet one, always polite, never a show-off and a good friend. But looking at the pictures one realises that HH has many stories to tell, sophisticated and unassuming that he is. A man of few words, here's one.

Dear Andy,

"I met her three times. We first met after her performance at Matthew's in Orchard Tower. Freddy Fender was performing there too. She took my offer to take her back to her hotel at the Ladyhill, opposite the Shangri-La. She stayed at the Ming Court Hotel and Mandarin Hotel for her two subsequent visits and concerts. We exchanged letters, cards and I received an autographed CD too.

I took her for a vegetarian meal as she was on this special diet. I found out that she had two failed marriages. When I first met her she was married to Joey Spampinato but they divorced in 1996, after nine years of marriage. She explained how she only had her dog for company and was then residing in Tennessee."

HH and Ms Davis became good friends and kept in touch but she became unwell and although she had the utmost faith that she would make it through, she passed away in 2004 due to breast cancer.
