RIP Sunny Low Of Sunny Low Dancers Singapore

UP TO 8,600 VISITORS, 40+ CONDOLENCES

Another piece of sad news again!

Sunny Low, according to friends who wrote in to my WhatsApp messages, had passed away this afternoon, to be with his Lord and Saviour.

These last few days have been very sad and disheartening indeed.

We met him, the last time at a Chinese New Year dinner, held by Tan Soo Khoon, in February 2019. The guests had a ball discussing the 60s with Sunny and other friends and music makers. The waltz, fox-trot and tango, together with the cha-cha, mambo, twist and jive came alive again!

In one of my postings I called him Mr. Twinkle Toes. Sunny left a legacy of dance for his family and Singapore. Not easy to fit into those ballroom shoes; his were huge...

Usually quiet and unassuming, he let his feet do the talking.

RIP SUNNY.

Our sincere condolences to Sunny's family.

RIP my late parents were Sunny Low’s father students way back in the 50s.
I can still remember my parents used to tell me that they learnt Latin Chacha, Rhumba and Tango as well.
Sigh, an iconic legend dancer has left us.

When I was 15 or 16 years old Sunny Low choreographed a solo dance item for me to perform at The Cathay Restaurant on a circular podium on stage!! I spent weeks at his Tiong Poh dance studio for those lessons! Met him now and than thru the years and the last time I caught up with him and Aleena was when I was greeting you at Tan Soo Khoon's CNY party when I realised he was sitting on your left with Aleena on your right!! I was so thrilled to see him and to catch up with him!! Goodbye Sunny! Rest In Peace!!

I have known Sunny Low since the 60’s. The Quests and The Sunny and Betty Low Dancers had performed in many functions together. It’s a sad day to learn of Sunny’s passing. The greatest consolation is knowing we will meet again.

Natasha Low or Tasha, from the current K-Pop group SKarf, is the grand daughter of Sunny Low the undisputed king of dance in Singapore from the late 1950s. Sunny learnt the art from his father Low Poh San.

Thanks James, for the reminder; that's from my contribution to the Singapore Memory's project 7 years ago. Meantime, the lovely Natasha's group has split up [if I'm not wrong] and she's back home.

That's why it's worth mentioning.
Thanks for the memories.

Condolences to Aleena and Jovn and family.

Singapore has lost an icon. I remembered helping Allen's revamp & edit the magazines for the Competitions. And he was most appreciative especially when I help rewrite his articles and history of the competitions and added Systems Which became The basis of future magazines.

Sunny is always cheerful and I'm sure he has left an indelible mark on Singapore Dancing.

Till we meet again Sunny. Keep sing and Keep Dancing

Condolences to the family of the late Sunny Low. Sunny Low Dancing Studio is iconic and well-known to many and our neighbouring countries. I hope my memory doesn't fail me as I somehow recall Sunny Low group had a dance studio along Tiong Bahru Road's shophouse in the sixties and seventies. Sunny Low and dancers were also featured in our local television many years back.
