Many thanks for the support all these years from readers in Singapore and internationally. Also the contributing writers from Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Japan, England, the US, Canada and Australia.

The daily average views are reducing but there are still regular folks out there who check this blog constantly.

I guess it is now a 60's music history blog... and hopefully youthful new readers who are looking for some information and images from that era will visit this place more often.

Greetings Brother Andy, I was just listening to this box-set by Dr. Hook, when this song “Only Sixteen”.. came on. This version was the most successful chart release for this Union City, New Jersey band, who became something of a legend in the ‘70s, perhaps best remembered for “Sylvia’s Mother”. Makes me long for a time when life was easier and more relaxed. Great band and great music

I feel really lucky that I am able to read the stories of the people who wrote this song, and no less from the lead singer himself." NO SINGAPORE SONG TO SING IN SCOTLAND

BUBBLE GUM MUSIC & THE BAN IN SINGAPORE

Remember bubblegum music from around 1967 to 1972? Or was it bubblegum rock, bubblegum pop, or simply bubblegum. It was a genre of pops with an upbeat sound marketed to appeal to teenagers. Popular groups like 1910 Fruitgum Company, The Ohio Express and The Archies were representative of bubblegum music and the most successful bubblegum song was Sugar, Sugar. Afterwards in 1969 bubble gum singer Tommy Roe came along, sang Dizzy and it became a hit. Bubble gum too was banned in Singapore. JIMMY CHNG [DRUMMER OF DECIBELS SAID: Bubble gum music with their lively and bouncy beat can effectively perk you up whenever you're feeling glum. I believe there was a minister who made a remark in parly probably during the motion to ban the sale of chewing gum here? He likened chewing gummers to cows chewing cud! Explaining the existence of the RED RIVER VALLEY, both river and song and their origins. This blog has been rejuvenated because of additional information. Also the song Red River Valley has been made popular in Singapore in the 2000's. I have been singing a rock interpretation, one which has never been done before (correct me). Only the country n western one and the rock instrumental have been recorded by many pop artistes. I have since included the song which is on You Tube; it is the song after 'Diana' during our concert at the Orchid Country Club Singapore in 2009. Hope you all enjoy it.
