Donald Trump's Pop Music: Rolling Stone Magazine

LATEST NEWS FLASH [5.11.24]
DONALD TRUMP HAS WON THE PRESIDENCY OF THE U.S. FOR THE 2ND TIME AS OFFICIALLY ANNOUNCED ON THE 5TH OF NOVEMBER, 2024.

PM LAWRENCE WONG [6/11/24]:
PM WONG CONGRATULATES PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP AND SAYS SINGAPORE IS READY TO WORK WITH NEW ADMINISTRATION.

Posted on 5th July, 2016:
When I am not blogging it's
CNN on HD for me. Fox News comes in the way only if the news pieces are interesting enough, otherwise the non HD channel has images so hazy and blurred from the Singapore telecast that I'd rather not watch the programmes on 702.  In fact watching the goggle box these days is near impossible without High Definition. I am spoilt.

So what do I watch on these channels. The big man on the small screen these days is The Donald. Watching Donald Trump on television has become second nature these past few months. I find him an enigma. Love him or hate him, the Trump is on the *POTUS campaign trail and I was following his Race for the White House. Since I am no #politikus, I would not like to discuss the subject on this blog , so this posting is just about the kind of music Mr Trump appreciates. Nothing more.
When I found him on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine on a You Tube video, it featured a taped interview about his favourite pop artistes. Being a television celebrity himself, Trump has many top gun friends that he mentions on the video.

According to his brief chat, Trump has been reading Rolling Stone for a long time and respects the talent of the Beatles, Elton John and other pop singers. He has many friends in the popular music field and mentions Aerosmith with Steven Tyler as people he appreciates. He is a big fan of the group and noticed that Tyler attended one of his debates recently.

Another fan of his is Bon Jovi and acknowledges the famous tenor Luciano Pavarotti. Another mega star that he used to keep in touch with was Michael Jackson (1958 - 2009). According to Trump, the singer who had passed away used to live at Trump Towers and the billionaire believes that MJ lost confidence in himself for different reasons.
Paul McCartney, according to Trump, is another star he knows. McCartney is often seen in New York City and feels that the former Beatle is a terrific guy. Trump has also spoken well of Neil Young saying that the singer's voice is, perfect and haunting.

Young's song, Rocking In The Free World (1989) was used by Trump in his presidential candidacy announcement.  Trump also used The Rolling Stones, Brown Sugar (1971) and Twisted Sister's, We're Not Gonna Take It (1984) during his rallies.  Apparently he is familiar with the members of these groups although they took objection to his using these songs.
The billionaire has been attending Broadway shows often, mentioning that the place is one of the great things about New York. Going to Broadway is one of his reliefs since he was himself in a tough business.

Two of Trump's favourite musicals are, Chicago (1975)  and Evita (1976). He has seen the Andrew Lloyd and Tim Rice extravaganza Evita at least six times and said the show was riveting. Don't Cry For Me Argentina, a truly beautiful composition, gripped the musical world when Elaine Paige sang it. Madonna came on with a movie version and the song has been covered by multiple artistes.

Trump loved the darkly cynical musical, Chicago too. The hit became a 2002 Oscar winning movie that starred, Richard Gere, Renee Zelwegger and Catherine Zeta Jones.
I found this musical entertaining and gripping. It is the second longest running show in Broadway today. My favourite piece is, All That Jazz.

"Wall Street may be tough but the theatre business is tougher.  Making it to Broadway is no easy feat," said Donald Trump.

But even in show biz the real estate mogul has no problem.  In Los Angeles, this side of the US, The Donald has a star on The Hollywood Walk of Fame in L.A. and it shines the brightest  among the thousands of stars on the well-renowned walk area. In fact his has become a major tourist attraction.

Some of his fans, who frequent the area near the Chinese Theatre, remarked that it was sometimes decorated with graffiti, "They either love it, or they hate it."

^Come on babe, we're gonna brush the sky
I bet you Lucky Lindy never flew so high
Cause in the stratosphere
How could he lend an ear
To all that jazz...

So what do you say dear readers?
NB:

*POTUS: President Of The United States
#An Indonesian term for a political being.

Hey Andy,
Interesting and timely that you should blog about DT and his taste in music and musicals of which I can relate to. I tell myself not to (who am I?) judge him badly on his stand to be the next P. Looking at what the world is becoming, I can agree that drastic measures need to be taken. But can he or will he be able to carry out his promises? What will be the repercussions?

I watched him in The Apprentice series and find he does command a presence. That show is REEL Now his REAL is rather off-putting.

If DT does not get into the WH, perhaps he could produce a musical called DTrumpa and its theme song - Don't cry for me America. Sorry, am writing this very tongue in the cheek.

Hope my say does not offend any of your readers. (Can't wait to learn of BB polls results.)

Hi Lin, thanks for writing and visiting. Good points here and I'm glad you're positive about Trump; he's the ultimate in a politically incorrect person.

Yes, he seems to have the same musical taste as you and I.

DT should stick to managing his multibillion $ business empire and use his billions to do good in poorly developed countries like eg Bill Gates has been doing rather than run for Potus. Agree with CYLin about DT producing the musical with the theme song Don't Cry for Me America. Btw Kenny Rogers coming to town in Aug.

...A thumb down on your writeup about Donald Trump. It is not as if he needs more publicity. DT is giving sensational speeches to appeal to certain sectors in America. He is able to do it because we currently have a very weak Republican Party. DT is like the Barry Goldwater and George Wallace in the 60s. President Obama said it best with his comments on DT..." this is not entertainment, this is not a reality show."

Harsh words, especially from Henri Gann. I never discussed anything political on the posting. It's just what and who he loves about pop music.

Whether he needs more publicity and whether the Republican Party is weak should not be the topic of the day. It's just his selection of songs and artistes, which appeals to me.

So to KM: the only problem with DT is whether he supports Asia. Let's hope for the best. Kenny Rogers, like Tom Jones, is not my cuppa.

Thank you both for writing in. I hope readers will join in to discuss DT whether political or otherwise; but don't you think his choice of music entertainers and entertainment is fun? :>)

He's not that bad a guy, is he?

Actually 50pc don't vote in previous elections. His support is coming from those who didn't vote before because they are unhappy with the establishment people behind the two parties. If Trump can draw 10 to 20pc of those who didn't vote before out in November he's home.

But frankly Trump must be elected US President if US is to become 'great' again; the nation I used to know and revere in my youth.

Trump's strategy connects well with an angry America. Knows his lines and his rhetoric echoes with the crowd.

True but can he win the people with $$$$$$.

I follow him on Fox, BBC, CNN. He doesn't have the calibre to be President of a great nation in this complex n challenging world. Even the Republican party is not in favour of him. He is a great business man, that's about it.

I prefer that Socialist guy.

In addition to writing and performing dozens of hits over his decades-long career, PRINCE the iconic musician also penned countless tracks for other artists. One of those songs was written about billionaire real estate developer and current GOP front runner Donald Trump.

Buzzfeed reported Friday the 'Purple One' wrote a song called, “Donald Trump (Black Version),” which was performed by an R&B group called The Time.

“Prince is responsible for a third of the record including another Corporate World standout — ‘Donald Trump (Black Version)’, which continues the theme of a black rewrite of Wall Street,” wrote Thorne.

While the song did not catch on in 1990, “Donald Trump (Black Version)” has now become a hit online.

Is there anyone Trump does not know? Michael Jackson lived in Trump Tower. Jennifer Hudson stayed there after her family was murdered. Trump has touched so many lives. It hurts my heart when I hear people bad mouth him or call him racist. Nothing could be further from the truth. Nice song. RIP, Sir Prince.

"Elton's music has not been requested for use in any official capacity by Donald Trump. Any use of his music should not be seen as an endorsement of Donald Trump by Elton."

Similar sentiments have been voiced by Adele, REM, Neil Young and the Rolling Stones, whose hits including “You can’t always get what you want” have been on the rally playlists.

Here's something of good taste Andy...
February 24, 2016 8:21 AM EST - During a fundraiser at the Apollo Theater, President Obama smoothly sang "I'm so in love with you," from Al Green's "Let's Stay Together," and the crowd went wild. (C-SPAN)
Just my thoughts !

Donald Trump is a baby boomer and hence would have grown up in the 60s and 70s and listened to songs of that period. Besides being a businessman and ex-President, he is a human being like all of us. Like him or not, it does not matter - most of us don't know the man. All we did was read a fraction of what was published about him. But as a human being, if he likes music, he is just as normal as any of us. His choice of music is his own taste - may not match mine. But I salute the man for using music to motivate the crowds - just as we sing to motivate and entertain the crowds

Immediately after Donald TRump was declared winner, this is how his team celebrated, by getting on their knees and singing praises to God.
