A bygone golden age of music, stunning musicians, brilliant voices and perfect harmonies, dear Brother Andy! Only the tender mercy of God did I ever get to meet Keith Locke.
I was attending a concert to watch my childhood idol, Veronica Young at NLB Singapore. I was at this charity event and this dude was seated next to me. I recognised him.. and said ‘wow’ you’re Keith Locke? Blessings.
We stepped out to take a breather during interval, and I thank him for his contributions to our Singapore music scene with The Quests. I asked him for an autograph and he scribbled it out on a card that I carried around in my wallet until it disintegrated!
We had supper together with Veronica and friends after the show. We walked Veronica back to her hotel and I took Keith for a car ride. I blasted some of the Quests songs and it brought tears to his eyes on hearing some of the songs that he wrote.
What a remarkable man who worked extremely hard for his days with The Quests, probably the biggest Singapore band of all time! Wherever Keith may be.. God bless him.
🙏❤️🙏..

Hi Fred,
Thanks for another informative and interesting post. I have published your KEITH LOCKE story on the blog with your personal pix too. Thanks for the contribution. If I may say so, you are the epitome of a pop music enthusiast. So far, no one can even come near. And I am not being patronising. Stay safe...
Keith Locke n the Quest's rendition of Don't Play That Song (You Lied) is yet another song that I enjoy listening to, more than the original recording by Ben E. King.
Yes I do read Andy's blog every now n then. It's a very interesting n nostalgic one ❗👏👏👏
Jimmy Yap = Mr. Everywhere. Wow such a nice Nick Name for you.
Well-done.
👍👏👏👍🥂
Andy ,
What a pleasant surprise ! Thanks for the memories of Keith Locke and The Quests ! I was introduced to Keith Locke by Vernon Cornelius one evening when jamming with Tony Kwek and The Mysterians at Keppel Club. Keith was staying in the apartment of Veronica Young after their performance at Keppel Hall to a full house dinner and dance.
Clarence Perera ex The Dukes was raising funds for Charity. Blue Diamonds also performed with Veronica Young. According to Vernon , Keith will wake up at 6 am in the morning - I volunteered to show Keith around for breakfast and lunch while Vernon was still napping !
The question now is, where's KEITH LOCKE today? If anyone out there can write in to tell blog readers and Singapore 60s music lovers, it'll be great.
I come across this post from Jimmy, and the story really moved me. I didn’t know the local music so much but now I learning things new everyday. I really hope one day, I could listen to him and enjoy myself in the music world.
I thought only God is everywhere? 😊😀😀
Thanks to all who wrote in to comment. It has been an interesting post from Fred Ching.
Oh no! My heart is broken!
Take it easy Irene. We say goodbye to KRIS KRISTOFFERSON who had just passed away. Country singer, songwriter and a great actor, Mr K died at 88 years young. RIP KRIS.
Keith Locke did well in his role as a popular star when he was in Singapore during the 60s. The Quests was a much better attraction on stage when Locke was performing with them. Later when Reggie Verghese and Jap Chong passed away, the lights dimmed for this group. I love the introduction to this particular song.
