LAWRENCE LIM SAYS:
"Just thinking why the heritage board is not promoting you and your blog for an Award. Personally I think your blog should be given due recognition for your 17 years of dedication in preserving our local music and our forgotten personalities. Various sports personalities have been awarded medallions for their contributions in their various fields. Why not music?
You definitely stand out and you deserve a National Award. The people who have access to the heritage board should initiate and nominate you. But no one is taking the initiative. Actually I am thinking to propose you and your work to the heritage board, but am not sure where to start. Any suggestion from readers?

I think it's good to put up this proposal, to gauge the response. To me your blog is the ‘one and only’ website publication that keeps tab with past and present musicians and their contributions. What will happen if your blog ceases to function? Where can we get to read and follow interesting articles to ‘flash back’ our memories???
I hope many ardent followers of your blog will lend support.

Comments are welcome from everyone.

RESPONSES:
Lawrence Lim [Proposer]:
Thanks Andy for posting my message. I was thinking about this a few years ago. I hope our loyal readers, especially our fellow musicians, will rally around me to get this message across to the relevant ministry or at least to our local media to do a write up on your passion. Your blog has kept ‘the ageing group’ healthy and relevant . Cheers!!!
I hope my article article gets to the ‘eyes and ears’ of some columnists, who may take this opportunity to feature you in their next article If their storyline captures the attention of some guys in the Heritage Board, you will be on your way😀😀😀
Cedric Collars [Musician/Perth/Aust]:
Quite an appropriate thought as you have been the guardian and curator of local music and the people who have and still are making them. You know the artists and their stories about their journeys through their music. I think that award may be a good idea.
Irene Yap [Recording Artiste]:
Oh, yes, I do agree that your blog deserves recognition. An award foots the bill of your 17 years of dedication to our local music scene. Your blog brought nostalgia to many of us, helping us to relive sweet memories of the past. It would have been lost and forgotten.
Cedric Cork [SG Percussionist/Vietnam War Musician]:
I think you should be honoured with an Award for your contribution to the music scene in Singapore! If the sports industry is recognised and musicians are awarded, why not Mr. Andy Young !!?
S.L. [Blog Contributor]
What he says is true. Your effort is contribution to cultural history in the field of the Arts, particularly Music. Good that the National Library Board has recognised your value and is preserving your blog.
Jimmy Chng [Percussionist/Contributing Writer]:
For sure I'll second Lawrence's proposal. Hope our National Heritage Board responds positively to Lawrence's proposal once it's formalized 🤞🤞
Jimmy Yap [Singing Ambassador/Globe Trotter]:
You certainly deserve this award. Let him talk to the right party involved by showing what he has written on your blog.
Oliver Balasingham [Percussionist/Retired School Principal]:
I agree with him but they need to be very familiar with your blog before anything can happen Get this done first.
James Kwok [Teacher/Entrepreneur]:
From Secondary One in 1960 to A Levels [1964-65]; to graduate; to Teachers Training College graduation (1969), the 1960s were an integral part of my life - my growing up years and a part of my heritage. I would love that you and your blog be recognized and acknowledged as a National Heritage ❤
Clarence Perera [Musician/Perth, Aust]:
Agree. Let's think of a way to get there.
Steve Ho [Rock Singer/Busker]:
Oh, yes, sir I totally agree with him! You deserve it! And it must be recognised!

People who read your blog are well aware of its value and your dedication.
Out of curiosity, does the Heritage Board preserve writing? I thought more on Architecture and places. Didn't the National Archives took to preserving your blog? So, if Archives did, then it is preserved. It is now considered important. No worries there.
Now Lawrence is suggesting you be awarded. I don't think Archives gives out awards. But the National Arts Council does. So these are the chaps he needs to get in touch with. He is so appreciative of your passion and dedication that he feels it ought to be acknowledged officially. Others can read and know what you are doing, but Lawrence is the one proposing a concrete form of acknowledgement.
Having said that, there are always petty and crooked minds all around, so they may think that you put Lawrence up to it. We know otherwise, don't we. The joy and satisfaction you derive from your writing and the responses and interactions from your readers and fans are more treasured.
Andy, one of your commentators brought up a very pertinent point. What happens to the blog when you are no longer the author? This question has crossed my mind many times since you introduced me to your blog.
[This post was taken off the blog because it was thought incorrect to do so but reinstated today on 26.2.2025 because of the forthcoming 60th anniversary celebration where Singaporeans are encouraged to promote the country's treasures. 😄]
