Andy 60s Music Visits Tan Tock Seng Hospital Atrium For A Christmas Sing-along With Richard Rajoo.

Andy visits the Tan Tock Seng Hospital to watch music artiste Richard Rajoo and his entourage of volunteers for a Christmas Cheer.

UP TO 1,750 VIEWS, 35 COMMENTS, REPLIES

The poster tells it all. It was held on Monday, 15th December 2025 with the hospital's popular, The Art of Healing programme that has been going on...

The lady who introduced the musical group. A pretty MC indeed: Ms. YVONNE.

The singers who brightened the Hospital that day. Richard Rajoo is at far right. Cheers for taking time off to entertain the crowd.

Part of the audience and music participants watching from the side-lines.

Dr. Bernard Thong, Chairman of the TTSH Medical Board and Dr. Devaraj, Director of TTSH Corporate Communication can be seen at the microphone.

Mr Roney Tan, the man behind the organisation, has planned many such events for the hospital with his family and friends. He is related to the late Mr. Tan Tock Seng.

Mr Richard Rajoo and blogger Andy chat during the short interval. They exchanged notes about the show and TTSH's Atrium longevity as a music venue.

Quite a gathering in the audience that includes out-patients, music and food enthusiasts, some staff-members and concert lovers.

‘Jingle Bells’ by the group that performed at the atrium with a cheerful and active audience moving around. It is only a sampling and could have been longer. Hopefully some songs would be ready for posting soon. YouTube Video by Andy Young.

AND RICHARD RAJOO.

Mr. Richard Rajoo, a good friend and active guitarist, told me about a Christmas sing-along concert called, Once Upon A Song, at Tan Tock Seng Hospital's very popular atrium that fronts the food court and other meal outlets. And what a treat it was with the concert participants dressed in colourful Santa hats and red polo-Ts.

The group sang well and presented their Christmas carols and fun songs for this season, ranging from Santa Clause Is Coming To Town, Rudolf the Red Nose Reindeer and Silent Night, Holy Night. At least 20 concert participants, *doctors, staff and volunteers were involved in the music event that afternoon. Gifts were given out too for members of the audience.

Merry Christmas everyone and a Happy New 2026.

More Music, Mute Meaningless Military Mayhem!

Comments from readers and participants are welcome!

*Read under Comments page below and check what Merlin Lim, guitarist and former patient, has to say about TTSH's doctors and staff in all honesty.

Andy's Music Blog: A Happy Note from Happy Tay In Vancouver

KUDOS FROM BC

9th July, 2024

"Andy Young is probably the only one Singapore that is keeping Music Memorabilia in Singapore alive and fluttering as many of our generation have reached an age who treasure precious memories of our past. Kudos to him. His site will be worth a lot in time to come - millions, considering the many wealthy ones that Singapore has now nurtured. Please convey my good wish to Andy. When you next come back to Singapore, we could get him together."

Well Andy, congrats again on your blog and this comment is from my friend Eng Leong (a top local lawyer and accomplished guitarist during his younger days) saying all that is needed to be said. I totally concur with him too. Have a great week my friend and hopefully, we get to meet again in Singapore! [Happy Tay, Vancouver, BC, Canada.]

Singapore 60's Music: We Were On Stage Before Cliff Richard

Andy with Michael Goh and brother Richard
at the Capitol Cinema 9 January 1961

UP TO 800 VIEWS, 30 CHATS, COMMENTS

Amateur Night Capitol Cinema: Andy Young, Michael Goh: 9th January, 1961
Singapore  Badminton Hall: Cliff Richard n Shadows: 19th  November,  1961

Backstage at the Capitol Cinema with Goh Brothers, Richard and Michael (2nd right), who sang My Rifle, My Pony and Me. I cannot remember the gentleman on the left. If you do please let us know.

After 47 years, I met Mike again at Vivo City Concert on 8th November 2008. Michael performed Memories Are Made Of This and two other songs by Dean Martin.

When I told him I had met him previously, he wasn't sure so I went home whipped out my photo-album and sent him a copy of our picture.

Michael had recorded songs by Dean Martin, Elvis Presley, and other 50's artistes on 4 CD's which were sold in the US under Michael Gold (blogged on Dec. 28, 2008).

Backstage, On Stage, Performing

And backstage is the theme today. Notice our garb. I was wearing a pair of shiny, brown pants, either near bell-bottoms of straight drain-pipe trousers. The others had the usual baggy pants tailor made for office use. The neckties were a variety then, some pointed or flat at the end. A small, longish golden or silver tie pin completes the outfit. White long sleeved shirts were common then.

This was the period around the time Cliff Richard and the Shadows were about to hit Singapore. Just as the 1950's were about to end, teenagers all over the world were crazy with Elvis Presley, Pat Boone, Bill Haley, Bobby Darin, Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and The Everly Brothers, the era of rock and roll, US music and vocal duets.
Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, Elvis Presley,
Johnny Cash in the late 1950's to the 1960's

Connie Francis, Sandra Dee, Rock Hudson and Gina Lollobrigida were the craze then. Movies like GidgetSummer Place and Come September were the talk of the time and Elvis fans were crazy with Are You Lonesome Tonight and Baby Let's Play House.

So when these people were hot, we were just as hot.  And we were mostly on stage performing already. Exciting years.

ChatGPT: About Andy's Singapore 60s Music Blog

   UP TO 1,300 VIEWS,

A friend, John Lim, wrote to Chat GPT and asked, "Tell me about Andy Young's Singapore 60s music blog?" 𝅘𝅥𝅯𝅘𝅥𝅰𝆕

The reply came:

"Andy Young's Singapore 60s Music is a blog dedicated to the music of the 1960s in Singapore. It is run by Andy Young, a  music enthusiast and collector who has been researching and collecting Singaporean music from the 1960s for many years.

The blog features reviews of music from the era, as well as interviews with musicians and other Singaporean music aficionados.  It also includes a comprehensive discography of Singaporean music from the 1960s, and a list of recommended albums. The blog is a great resource for anyone interested in the music of Singapore in the 1960s 𝅘𝅥𝅯𝅘𝅥𝅰𝆕."

"ChatGPT is a language model that understands and generates human-like language. It can produce poetry and stories and discuss current events and intellectual discussions.

It is ideal if you want an AI helper for business or just want to communicate with a computer. Its advanced language abilities and algorithms are revolutionizing machine-human interaction. Marion Dubois: Filmora.wondershare.com"

I must thank young engineer, John Lim, who checked out the information on his own, to verify the blog's value and authenticity.

From Ronald Ho.

Andy,

"I found out that AI runs off specially designed microprocessor chips whose algorithms are into either mathematical analysis or non mathematical, and this is further broken into higher GPU elements (which gets into art, design, architecture, etc) or prose (letter writing, stories, text, etc). Nvidia leads in this area.

The standard traditional microprocessors are more attuned towards number crunching like those produced by Intel and AND. And fine-tuned to a friendlier architecture designed by ARM Technologies, a British firm, and used by Qualcomn and Samsung aimed at Mobile devices. Apparently, MPUs to handle Quantum Processing is also of a different architecture. They have evolved much since the days I was in semiconductor assembly."
