The Road Ahead
Music and Lyrics by Linying and Evan Low
Production and arrangement by Evan Low and Linying
Performed by Linying, Sezairi Sezali, Shye-Anne Brown and Shabir
Directed by Huang Junxiang and Jerrold Chong
Verse 1One man on an island
One drop in the sea
All it takes to set a wave in motion
Is a single word, an action
A hope that we can be
The change that we’ve been
longing to see
Pre Chorus
For our home, our land, our family
It’s all within our reach
Chorus
See this island, every grain of sand
Hear this anthem, it’s the voices of our friends
Come whatever on the road ahead
We did it before, and we’ll do it again
Verse 2
When the moments turn to hours
And the day’s last light is gone
Look around us always and remember
There were times we were uncertain
But we just kept walking on
It’s always darkest just before the dawn
Chorus
See this island, every grain of sand
Hear this anthem, it’s the voices of our friends
Come whatever on the road ahead
We did it before, and we’ll do it again
Bridge
Our home, the home we share
Where the garden always grows toward the light
Though the road ahead is daunting,
I know we’re gonna be alright
Chorus
See this island, every grain of sand
Hear this anthem, it’s the voices of our friends
Come whatever on the road ahead
We did it before, and we’ll do it again.

In the past NDP, esp in 1980s/1990s periods, national day songs evoked a sense of patriotism and encouraged group singing, esp with school children. Everyone then was exciting, cheered and clapped and even danced, and whole atmosphere made one felt a sense of belonging to SG. Since then the NDP songs, including 2021's are very tame, and they are just another ballad-type of songs. Nevertheless, these recent NDP songs, I think, suits mainly adults because of their meaningful lyrics. The above is just my personal opinions.
You've got your points there FL, I must agree, having lived the age like I have.
I think the lyrics can be meaningful; it just depends how one interprets them.
Overall it has a lively beat...
Thanks for being the first to comment and always a staunch supporter.
Very sweet, nice song...but I do not detect any spirit of patriotism. My all time favourite is WE ARE SINGAPORE!
Ah, now I realise.
It's true, no spirit of patriotism.
Sigh.
Not easy to compose songs, any type...
AGAIN MANY THANKS, STP, FOR YOUR VISITS.
[I need to add though, after consultation with those involved, that the patriotism doesn't need to be in the song, as each song for each year may focus on different aspects of SG's national spirit. We should look on the positive side of each composition; this time around it's penned by a young lady. So I would give it all respect. CHEERS.]

Personally I prefer old NDP songs like "Stand Up For Singapore" I'd be happy if "Singapore Pie" was regarded as NDP song.
Andy Young
WOW. Hey Hiroshi.
I didn't know you're so familiar with our NDP songs.
Yes, it's true.
Some people like the older songs.
SG Pie, I'm not familiar with;
is this the Chinese version, no English equivalent.
I have this song book.
The letters are small
I hope you can read it.
My goodness, you even have a ready copy.
Thank you Hiroshi, I didn't even know there's an English version.
I wonder how many Singaporeans know this.
Again, appreciate your sharing.
