Andy 60s Music: A Tribute To The Late Malcolm Hyder By Danny Koh

The late MALCOLM HYDER who passed away on 11 JANUARY 2026 in Singapore; reported by good friend DANNY KOH.

“Malcolm Hyder, the driving force behind our band, FLYING FEATHERS, has passed away. During our formative years, we would gather at his Joo Chiat Road home to rehearse and hone our skills. Malcolm's dynamic personality and inventive ideas not only shaped our music but also inspired our band's name.

The members in the band were Roger Prior, Harvey Klass, Patrick Nathan and Myself.  All of us were in our 20’s. Played at the RAF Officers Club in Changi.

As I reflect on these memories, I'm reminded of his remarkable life, which included his tenure as a teacher at Siglap. He will be deeply missed.

Rest In Peace, Malcolm. Condolences to his Family.”

Malcolm delivered jokes with a straight face and I have never failed to laugh. He was mostly cheerful, slim and immaculately dressed with long sleeves and Brylcreem hair. Looks more like a school teacher ( he is) than a pop singer. We’ll meet again my friend…

Thanks very much for sharing 🙏. Always with a tinge of sadness to hear of anyone's passing. Tomorrow I will be attending the funeral of an old friend. Exactly one year ago my oldest friend's wife passed away as well. We count our blessings for each day 🙏. God bless us all.

Hi, Malcolm Hyder from The Bambinos has passed away today 11 Jan 2026. May God bless his soul and may he be reunited with his family and friends in Heaven forever singing. Rest in peace.

Malcolm was choir master at Holy family during those years. We'd go carolling for about 3-4 Christmases. He would arrange hymns into jazzy versions, until I think he was banned eventually. He'd bring the whole choir to my home for rehearsals. He’s a very thorough musician.

I remember Mr Malcolm Hyder being a Guest at one of our many gigs, but I can't recall if he did perform with us - the Band at that Function or Event.

I remember watching musical programs featuring the Bambinos during the black and white TV era. It's sad that another musician amongst the many who had contributed much to Singapore's music scene is gone. RIP Mr Malcolm Hyder.

I remember Aubrey Miles and was class mates with Harvey Klass, and school mates with Patrick Nathan and Roger Prior. We were the original ones that started the music group McCoy's foundation in St Patrick's Pri 6. 🤣

I must really thank the kind folks who have been sending their memories, comments and condolences to the late MALCOLM HYDER. He was already a star those years when our SG pop music community had no recording artistes nor vinyl.

My heartiest condolences to his bereaved family. I can recall how he looked; slim, smiley, nice and pleasant personality. I have not seen him after I left school. So I do not know how he would have looked, now. Anyone has a photo? He was one of my teachers either in Owen Pri or Swiss Cottage. I will be 73 in March, so, I guess he would be in his 90s? Sad to know. May his soul rest in peace, and happily singing amongst the angels.

oh blimey, who passed away? Mr Malcolm Hyder (my ex teacher) or Mr Aubrey?

Both MR NURWANGI, AUBREY some years ago and MALCOLM, only yesterday. But they are both on this blog. Thank you for heartfelt thoughts and sincere condolences.

I just saw the orbituary of Mr Malcom Hyder’s passing on 10 Jan 2026. A sad day but a joyful day also to remember a beautiful human being. He was my Lit teacher in Dunman Secondary School in 1976 and my neighbour when he was living in Joo Chiat Ave. Still remember him whenever walking past his old house, him fondly loving and polishing his Ford car. A funny guy always. RiP Mr Hyder, you made so many people laugh and smile. God has been patiently waiting for you to make him smile, laugh and to bless your soul.

Mr Hyder taught us singing when I was a primary school pupil at Haig Road Boys' School. I remember him as a cheerful and enthusiastic teacher. We all liked him. Peace be with him.
