Dear Andy,
It was indeed an honor to have you as our featured guest for this week's Music & Me on VintageRadioSG. The program will be “aired” this on Wednesday 26th January at 2pm.
The program can also be heard via our Mobile App and web site, do share this message with your family and friends so that they can listen in as well.
The following link below will lead them to a page where they can download the relevant free VintageRadioSG app (depending on device) to listen to the show https://www.vintageradio.sg/#/list/apps?lang=en
NB:
In April last year (2021), I received an FB message about an interview for an internet radio broadcast after being 'stalked' on Facebook. I was surprised but met my caller. I realised I was talking to a very pleasant, sincere and frank gentleman, Mr. Aloysius Tan (remember Perfect 10) who was just doing his duty for Vintage as co-founder.
During our chat we agreed that the interview was to be in the same month but my own personal circumstances delayed it till January 2022. I must thank Tan Soo Khoon [former Speaker of SG Parliament] for chatting with me about the show. A good reminder actually.
My apology to both Aloysius and DJ Brian Richmond for making it so late... Thanks for giving me a moment to share my music journey.

THANKS TO ALL OF YOU WHO LISTENED IN,FOR THE PERSONAL RESPONSES YOU HAVE PROVIDED ON THIS POST. DEEPLY FELT, TRULY.
BRIAN RICHMOND HAS HIS WAYS CONDUCTING AN INTERVIEW.
HE RUNS THE FULL COURSE, ALWAYS AT THE HELM AND WHEN HE SPEEDS, HE MAKES SURE HIS ONLY PASSENGER DOESN'T KEEL OVER. AND BOTH ARRIVE SAFELY HOME.
You will make the coolest grandpa to anyone. Been there, done this & that to now sharing those early golden days of 60s Spore pop scene with all here in your wonderful blog. Keep on rocking & more good years Andy
Thanks for the podcast, Andy.
I listened to the whole podcast.
I didn't know you were the only child...
You have been very involved in music.
I grew up in my kampong with Philipino musicians.
Ironically I wasn't attracted to music as you were and still are.
Thanks.
Thanks so much for a lovely and pleasant comment.
I tried to guess who you are but couldn't.
Yes, I will keep on rocking but you need to accompany me on the dance floor too.
Would be great if you could tell me your name. JC ?
Awesome & glad to hear that u & Brian had some fun over his station.
Just finished listening to your interview with Brian.
Know a lot more about you.
Great story of your music journey still continuing.
Keep blog going.
👍👍👍.
Andy very good.
Andy,
Thanks for all your good effort on the blog.
Appreciate your contribution to the music industry here.
Have a good time next week for CNY festive season.
Hi Andy,
Heard your radio interview and it was indeed a pleasurable journey down memory lane for me. As the prude of a school principal I think, The days of Wine and Roses" should have been the quote and not, "Wine, women and Song. Whatever the case you have indeed made a correct choice and the final outcome is still "music" in a different format.
Well done Andy and keep those good times alive.
Hi Andy,
Blessed Saturday and school is starting to pick up.
Congratulations on being interviewed on Vintage Radio SG.
Thank you for sharing the link, I'll give it a listen.
Shared with my team mates who worked on the history of pop-yeh-yeh project with me last year!
Congrats, manage to listen to the whole interview with Brian Richmond and for your information Veronica Young won the Millie Small Contest at the Sky Cinema in Great World, not Rex.
The rest is awesome! Cheers and stay safe!
You miss out one of your favourite songs, FIREBALL XL-5.
Listened to the interview, very interesting!
Didn't hear about Vintage Radio before.
Waaa, I finally know your age & where you went to school!
It would have been wonderful to have your mum tailor kebaya.
Wah!
That's cool!
Brian Richmond!
He's a very friendly DJ.
Wohoooooo!
So proud of you my teacher!
Hi,
Hope you are doing well!
All ready for Chinese New Year?
Hahaha no didn't forget!
How can I forget my teacher :)
Have a wonderful new year!
Shall take a photo of my secondary school pals and share :)
Well done Andy, very nice and good positive responses.
I'm curious to know who's the jerk who tripped you went on stage to collect your winning prize. But you are a gentleman and did not want to reveal his name.
Maybe next time I see you, you can whisper his name to me :).
Ha, ha. Anyway it was an interesting interview.
Well done!
🙏🙏👍👍💪💪
I enjoyed listening to the talk with Brian a few days ago and even recorded the program. I can't believe you are over 80. I always thought you are almost as old as me.
I am really impressed with the way you speak. The voice from the radio was youthful and intelligent making me realize you are much younger than I.
THANKS SO MUCH HIROSHI,
Your compliment made my year. Clint Eastwood says, "Don't let the old man in." I try to practise active ageing. Fun and games should be the norm at my age. KEEP SAFE AND A HAPPY LUNAR NEW YEAR TO YOU AND WIFE.
Herb liked your podcast and said you are doing a great job.
Keep up the good work.
Take Care and Best Wishes.
Kindest Regards
Another Year of Joy, Fun and Prosperity!
I read the recent comments on your blog and I have to say that you have some of the most loyal friends, the greatest blog readers and the most appreciable people on your blog.
Go Andy Go!!!
Thank you all for the kind words ie: congratulatory messages and lovely season's greetings.
I guess we all have to thank VINTAGE RADIO SINGAPORE for bringing us together again amidst this pandemic, er, endemic?
I am glad I made the turn around and decided to have a go with the interview and risk the horrid Covid situation.
Again thanks to Aloysius and Brian.
Thank you Andy.
This link worked like a charm; so lovely to hear your voice and your reminiscences of your life and music. :-)
I wish you a belated Happy Birthday, and a Happy New Year of the Tiger.
Best always.
All Singapore musicians, students in researching pop music should be thankful to you for the blog.
Amazing how you handled all the questions from Brian Richmond so perfectly off the cuff.
Heartiest congratulations Andy.
Let's look forward to more good postings on your blog in the year of the TIGER.
Listened to your interview on Vintage Showcase. Great memories and colourful experiences. Hey we grew up in the same kampong around Lim Yew Hock's area... me along Sim's Drive just opposite the bungalow and you were hanging around there in your teens... interesting.
Gong Xi Fa Cai!
Thank you Jimmy for the compliment and comment on the interview.
We had our chat on the phone when you said I could answer, "so eloquently (meaning with substance)."
Appreciate your support through these years.
Hi J,
I'm glad you could connect easily and had listened to the interview.
Yes, many years are gone now but let's look at the future with positivity and hope.
Thank you.
Thank you Mrs. Koh. I didn't even realise we were neighbours. That whole area has changed now, forever, and the huge beautiful bungalows have all gone, replaced with high-storied flats and condominiums.
A very interesting interview.
Content is very rich.
Well done Andy.
I listened to your interview, it was excellent to hear about yourself and your music journey.
Nice conversation, Andy that you had with Brian. I picked several songs to check up on, especially Gambang Semarang, Orbison's Heartbreak Radio, Tales of Hoffman.
You do have some similarities with me...
My Mum, being nyonya, introduced me to music when I was a toddler and I came to appreciate songs from the 20s to the 50s, songs from movies, and old keronchongs. She had a 78 rpm player and stacks of old polyester records.
Did you know Brian Richmond and all of the original Meltones went to St Patrick's School in Primary and Secondary levels? Same term. School Certificate Cambridge 1964.
Just checked. I knew the music many decades ago.
Andy, the Orbison number verse is quite similar to Achy Breaky Heart. Chorus is different.
I also heard this keronchong when I was a kid. Very popular in the 50s.
I keep a selection of old Shanghai songs which my wife and I like.
Thanks Ronald for your interesting reaction to the interview.
Many parallels I guess with our childhood years.
You took time and trouble to write in.
Also thanks to YEN and JERRY MURAD for the feedback.
YEN is an old student friend and JERRY of course is from THE DUKES and other bands.
Hi Andy,
