*Goodbye Jimmy goodbye
We'll see you again
But we don't know when
Goodbye Jimmy goodbye...

A note from Larry Lai [former Rediffusion DJ, Singapore] today shocked many of us in the music community. It read, "With a heavy heart I share the news of Jimmy Chan's passing."

Truly one of the best pianists around in Singapore. Unassuming, he played anything from pops to jazz; Chinese hits to keroncong-styled Indonesian melodies and of course dance music. And when he plays, no cumbersome notes to guide him; he just lets his heart synchronize with the tunes and his fingers glide on the piano keys.

#'La Vie En Rose' April 2022.

During his free time Jimmy goes out to the Seniors at the old folks homes when he visits them with his entourage of singers and musicians.

Meeting Sunny Low, who had also just passed away would be a cinch; one Mr. Twinkle-Toes and the other Mr. Twinkle-Fingers. Heaven!

We will all miss you Jimmy.
R.I.P. dear Maestro.

Deepest condolences to Jimmy's family.

Directly translated to "life in pink", "La Vie En Rose" essentially means seeing life through rose-coloured glasses. Living with an attitude or outlook of positivity, trying to see beauty in the everyday; like you do when you first fall in love.

Jimmy is a giant among musicians- he not only played ‘by heart’ but always with heart. I am privileged to have shared many years with him in the late 50’s to early 60’s. and so happy that we spent times together pre Covid. He added THE dimension to the Flamingos that changed it into the band it became. Thanks for touching my life. Goodbye buddy

The above tribute is from DR CHARLES KOH who lives in the US.
Dr Koh was the band leader of the well-renowned combo band, THE FLAMINGOS.

Thanks Charles.

Maestro pianist JIMMY CHAN will be missed by many - forever in my heart though. Greatly honored to be accompanied by him at his birthday party and sang 'O Sole Mio'. I will always treat this as my tribute to a great pianist that has done Singapore proud.

Jimmy was easy to talk to. Completely guileless.

HAPPY TAY [VANCOUVER, BC, CANADA] said...

Yes, I used to spend some evenings relaxing at he lounge at the MANDARIN HOTEL when he was playing there. Got to know him from there too.

Great pianist and a wonderful guy.

Absolutely Andy. He's got no airs even though at that time he was already an accomplished musician, a true professional. Larry is correct on that.
