Psycho [1960] - Anthony Perkin's Letter To Stephen Han

 UP TO 1,300 VIEWS N 20 COMMENTS

Anthony Perkins, young, handsome
and a big hit with fans all over the world in his
starring role in the movie PSYCHO [1960].

A personal letter from Stephen Han

"When I was young, I used to listen to music of all genres, be it pop, country or jazz.  As for movies, I like the action, drama, comedy and musical ones. I was obsessed into writing to my favourite pop or movie stars for their autographed pictures. Not all of them would rely but I did receive from Brenda Lee, Anne Murray, George Straits, Helen Shapiro and a few others.

As for film stars, I had some lovely photos of Sandra Dee, Susan Pleshette, Connie Steven’s and Elizabeth Taylor. However, I was really surprised to receive a quite long letter from Anthony Perkins. Remember him, I guess the Pioneer or Silver generation did for his excellent role in the hit “Psycho”, in which he starred with Janet Leigh. He played his part cleverly and the movie was a box office hit. I hereby leave you with the letter that I had from him."

Thanks Stephen for allowing us to read Mr. Perkins' letter to you. It is certainly very rare that famous movie stars would want to reply personally to their fans. This missive is a treat indeed. Andy.

It is a gem Stephen and as such should be treasured. It is not often we get to see the human side of famous people and yet they are no more different as any one of us. Congratulations and may your good memories bring you joy and rewards of immense pleasure. Well done Stephen 👍

Hi Cedric,
Thanks so much for the immediate response to a truly unique situation. I was surprised when I read the note itself and how Perkins replied, providing Mr. Han his future obligations and movie schedules.

If anyone had this experience, do write in. I am always willing to post your letters and stories.

Wow, Stephen must have been thrilled to bits upon receiving that letter.
I remember watching the movie GREEN MANSION in which ANTHONY PERKINS and AUDREY HEPBURN starred. That was a long way back.

A big thank you to Stephen for sharing this letter with readers of your blog.

Thanks Jimmy,
That's a very informative comment.
Didn't know Perkins did a movie with Hepburn.
Yes, Stephen is lucky isn't he.
Those were PEN-PAL days when air-mails were all powerful.
To receive a hard copy is something.

Yes, Audie,
It is true that Stephen Han has many photographs from famous Hollywood movie stars.
He has shared them on other media outlets.
I am hoping he will share more of them on this blog.
A real nice guy with no agenda; that's him.

No comment, though I have watched PSYCHO many years back.

MICHAEL LEE from SYDNEY AUSTRALIA said...

I have heard of Psycho but did not see the movie - cinema was not my interest.
However, I remember Alfred Hitchcock in the 60s.

FREDA yes, generous with his stories and information.
Hopefully TEEPEES will perform again soon so Stephen can have a front seat view.

Interesting…good that Stephen kept the letter all these years.
Perkins must be glad to know that he had ardent fans from as far away as SG.

Daisy hi,
thanks for your constant support of the blog.
There's a movie before 'Psycho' that Perkins acted in, with Audrey Hepburn.
It's called GREEN MANSIONS and available on the net free.
A worthwhile one but it's from 1959.

Thank you Stephen that's history when we were young in 70s, we don't perform anymore, only an only one for old time sake at Pek Kio 2019 encouragement from Jerry Fernandez, hehehe 😁

ANTHONY PERKINS could be considered a B-lister actor, just like Ronald Reagan was. Except for his breakout role in PSYCHO, he didn't quite command the attention of movie-going public. He would support other A-listers in major films but only took top billing in B-listed movies.

He had a minor hit as a singer, in MOONLIGHT SWIM in 1957 before ELVIS had a hit with it in BLUE HAWAII movie.

He had a long-term relationship with Tab Hunter.

CEDRIC COLLARS - WRITER/MUSICIAN/PERTH AUSTRALIA said...

Just for your information they brought out a series called, BATES MOTEL as a sequel to PSYCHO the movie. Just as gripping as the original movie.

Watched GREEN MANSIONS the movie.

I gave it half an hour, then went to bed.
It was so boring and I tried to understand the sentiments behind the story but didn't, with the characters and incidents. One of Hepburn's failures.
Definitely poor acting on Perkin's part.
I guess JT Chen was right about him being a B-lister.
