The New Seekers in a Coca Cola advertisement made a recording on an Extended Play vinyl record [EP]. It was the very popular, I'd Like To Teach The World To Sing reworked as, I'd Like To Buy The World A Coke.
It's still remembered to day by many baby boomers and the world at large. The jingle made it to the top 100 best selling single in the UK, end 1971, came 7th in the U.S. and was at the top of the international pop chart.
This recording is unique to the younger generation and a recent display of the vinyl to some college students resulted in some squeals of delight.
Sometimes I wonder. How much are these people paid for appearing in such advertisements? Tons of money?
And how much would the vinyl cost today?

Andy. Some time ago I blogged about this and other songs used in advertisements. You and your readers may want to check out my post titled: Through the Years and the readers comments.
Thank you for the comments and connection Chun See. Your posting is simply wonderful and nostalgic.
Actually my idea is simple. I have a collection of EPs and LPs that are advertisements. They contain 60s music. I post them.
Some more coming up.
I still remember this Coca Cola advertisement on TV. The song was so catchy that I also sang along with the advertisement.
Thanks for this post.
Thanks BC. Jingles seem to stay in our minds. They are catchy with simple lyrics and played so many times on media that we learn them soon enough. Is it indoctrination of the worst kind?
Some jingles are so catchy that we don't even have to learn, they just infiltrate into our mind even without our knowledge. I'd Like To Buy The World A Coke is denitely one of them.
Yes, it's true. And we buy the drink. Because it's been instilled in our minds.

It certainly took the world by storm then, and it remains my favourite tune to this day. (BABY BOOMER, MIKE)

Thanks again Mike for writing. Yes jingles certainly stick in the mind like super glue. The other song that keeps playing in my head is, "We Are The World."
I hope to post the 45 single soon. Only one copy but everyone's keeping theirs.
Cheers,
Andy
