Lawrence Wong: Our Future PM Plays The Guitar & Sings

Future PM Lawrence Wong plays the guitar
and sings with much feel and ease.

It's officially announced that DPM Lawrence Wong
becomes PM on 15th May, 2024. At long last we'll have a
guitar playing and musically-minded chief in Singapore.
Congratulations PM Wong. [15 April, 2024.]

Finance Minister Lawrence is also Deputy Prime Minister from today.

"He's good on the guitar and a natural on stage!"  It's the general remark among some Singapore music makers, that he could probably make a living as a music maker. That's Lawrence Wong, the presumptive Prime Minister of Singapore, actually a pop star already on the political stage.

It was announced by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong in mid-April 2022 that Finance Minister Wong would lead the 4G team and become the next PM in succession if the party wins the next election.

But mine isn't a political blog so the focus will be on his ability to sing and play the guitar. Let's hope he carries on doing so.

He not only sings Western pops but does justice to the Chinese songs too.

There will be a few postings on Mr. Wong. So watch out for them.

Please share this post with your family and friends.

Lawrence Wong accompanies on guitar,
 'Everyday I Have The Blues'
YouTube Video by Desmond Khoh.

Before Lawrence Wong there was Tan Soo Khoon,
another rockin' politician who plays the guitar and sings Elvis.

HI TERENCE,

I'm really not into any political discussion on this music blog, Malaysian or otherwise;
perhaps we'll just confine our chat to music as I just find it interesting that we have a minister who's a pop singer.

THANKS.

I remember Mr Lawrence Wong was the Guest of Honour at the Quests concert in Queenstown CC in Sept 2013. He attended the first of the three shows. I attended the second show on a Sunday afternoon.

Hi Andy, greetings from your neighbour. Your blog has been an amazing read for me. You wrote tons of stuffs which are related to the event I am organising currently. First and foremost, I am Mizan from People Of Remarkable talents (PORT), Ipoh, Malaysia. I tried to contact you via your twitter account but could not find the direct message button.

For your info, PORT will be organising the 4th Ipoh Music Symposium (IMS) with the theme '1960s Pop: Evolution, Revolution and Legacy'. The event consists of symposium, workshops, performances, forums, exhibitions, discussions and other pockets events related to music in the 1960's. Participants ranges from academics, researchers, writers, music industry players and also music enthusiasts.

Similar to the previous IMS, all presented papers during the symposium will be published in a book after the event ends. I am also in contact with Elizabeth a.k.a Liz, late Joe Chin's widow as she will be writing a book about The Fabulous Falcons and it's going to be launched during the event. We are also trying to get in touch with Joseph Pereira to invite him to take part in our event too.

You can reach me via ipohmusicsymposium@gmail.com or mizansamsudin@gmail.com if you are interested to participate. Thank you for spending your time reading this.

Best regards,
Mizan

I have written to Mizan immediately in May but he has not replied for a long time. I guess the symposium is all over now.

Good choice to have a 52 year young PM with a great passion for music as well.
Expect more international groups to musicians to come after Coldplay, Taylor swift, Rod Stewart, Deep Purple!

Buskers will be very happy to note Lawrence Wong did busking in the USA during his University days as well.

Hi Andy,

It's very cool to have a Prime Minister who loves music and plays the guitar. Hopefully to be invited to perform at a function where he will be guest of honour. Then I will take a deep breath and invite him on stage to play the guitar. Wishful thinking some might say, but wishes do come true.

Just for the record, at PM Lee's CNY party at Gardens By The Bay some years ago, we invited him to sing The Young Ones with us and he obliged. So if music be the food of love, play on.

To have an incoming PM who enjoys and plays music shows a change in the ruling party. Previous leaders, although strict, effective and serious in their objectives were seen to be stiff but Lawrence Wong, I hope, will help to change that image.

ANDY: Pop Music Not Pills. © said...

Thanks ANON.for sharing your thoughts and views about the ruling party and leaders.
Yes, future PM Wong would definitely be a change; he'll he on stage sometimes, singing and strumming on his guitar. Cheers.

With his musical talent, Lawrence Wong can certainly connect better with the young and not so young.

And that's why he's going to make a popular PM not only in Singapore but Malaysia too because he knows how to win their hearts!

Just like our kampong days when the Malays and Chinese [Indians too] all spoke the same language and music will bring people together no matter what race or religion. He's on the right path and make a good PM.

ENG LEONG [VANCOUVER, BC, CANADA] said...

Happy, I have seen some videos of Lawrence Wong playing the guitar. He plays blues and quite adept at it. I am amazed. I would have loved to have the opportunity to jam with him. I play the blues harmonica too, apart from the guitar. The sound of the blues harp and the playing of it is quite different from an ordinary harmonica.

Comments from a friend of mine who used to be a good guitarist during his university days. He has his own law practice. Will tell him about you too.

Appreciate.
