Donald Trump Honours Elvis Presley With Medal Of Freedom

Mr Donald Trump, President of the United States, honoured Elvis Presley, King of Rock and Roll with a posthumous Presidential Medal of Freedom on 16 November 2018 at the White House. It is the highest honour given to a civilian of the US.

Accordingly the 60's icon, "defined American culture to billions of adoring fans around the world. Elvis fused gospel, country and rhythm n blues to create a sound all his own selling more than a billion records."  Six other recipients were also awarded the Medal.

Turning back the clock, Mr Trumped recalled an Elvis concert he attended, where members of the audience and fans were screaming and going crazy, ripping the hall apart. To appease the crowd, the usual announcement was made for most Elvis shows, "Elvis has left the building."

Instead, Mr Trump misquoted saying, "Elvis has left the house."

Elvis Presley with 'How Great Thou Art,' heard in the White House.

He was clearly in a happy mood. He described Elvis as legendary and the popular Grammy awarded gospel How Great Thou Art was played for a moment.

Congratulations, Mr Trump. One of the best moves that you made. I can hear Elvis fans screaming now.

And Elvis. The medal has been reserved for you, a long time ago. The question was, who's going to give it away.

I agree with you, Andy.

It is one of the good moves which Trump has made.

When Elvis was alive, I never appreciated his music and singing, bearing in mind his almost vulgar gyrating hips while singing his pop songs. But after his untimely death, I have come to appreciate his fervour and depth in singing gospel and other serious songs.

Here's a quote from Barbra Streisand's new song for Donald Trump, "Don't Lie To Me."

She says it's time to put her political beliefs into her music and addresses Trump directly in her new song in November 2018.

Am not sure if Elvis would feel honoured if he were alive.

Even Grandmas and Grandpas love Elvis.
Why not Trump?
He belongs to that generation.
BEATLES for England!
ELVIS for America!

"Given the musician's reluctance to take a strong political stance, it doesn't seem like not too much of a stretch to say he would likely have collected his medal from Trump without too much fuss."

You were so close to Elvis for many years. How does it feel to see him get his due from the White House in 2018?

I would love to see him realize that he was thought that much of, you know? It’s hard during the time of innovators or history-makers for the world to catch up.

I understand why there’s a time lapse. But more importantly, I know why his legacy and memory will have such an honour. I think it’s very appropriate that Jack Soden, who opened up Graceland with Priscilla Presley, is going to accept that on behalf of Elvis Presley.

I knew him pretty well. I went through most of the stages of his life with him. I was pleasantly shocked, in one way, when I got the call that he was getting this a couple of weeks ago. And in another way, I was thinking “It’s about damn time!” But none of us would have thought that. Elvis would have never thought he’d still be remembered some 40 years after he’s passed away.
