Connie Francis: A Tribute To A Legend Who Influenced Singapore Pops.

RIP:
Ms CONNIE FRANCIS:
Dec. 12/1937 - July 16/025
Age: 87.

Concetta Rosa Maria was in the top 30 list of most popular singers in the 50s. Her songs are too many to mention so check her out. She became the first woman to top the Billboard Hot 100.

My favourites include, 'Who's Sorry Now', 'Stupid Cupid', 'My Happiness', 'Mama', 'Frankie', 'My Heart Has A Mind Of Its Own,' and 'Everybody's Somebody's Fool'.

Connie Francis' influenced much in Singapore's pop music scene with many of her millions of hit singles.

In fact she was so popular in the 50s and 60s that the title of Singapore's Connie Francis belongs to two ladies. Patricia Pestana is the official title holder and Veronica Young could be the other one. And they do sing like Connie Francis.

The Crescendos 'Mr Twister' [sung by Susan Lim] sold more copies than Connie Francis' original and was number 10 in Philips International Top Ten. 'Stupid Cupid' has been made into a guitar instrumental by a pop guitar group called, The Stylers. Elvis recorded 'My Happiness' a long time ago.

became hits. Ah! That's something to remember her by.

My mother's favorite singer. Best song is Stupid Cupid. Other best is Whos Sorry now.

She is everybody's sweetheart, both young and old. I understand the younger generation of girls are listening to her too because of CDs available in the market as they do not appreciate 21st Century music.

As far as I am aware, Connie Francis is extinct amongst the youths in Singapore. Maybe those in their 40's and beyond listen to her but certainly not the younger people.

Ah yes, Ms Connie Francis and the song " Who's Sorry Now ". The song made popular by Ms Patricia Pestana, Singapore's Connie Francis. Those were the days. RIP Connie you have been remembered.

Yes I remember. Patricia Pestana was Singapore's Connie Francis and she was a Katong CHIJ student. 🤣🤣

Sad to note of Connie's passing. She had so many hit songs which I enjoyed listening to over the airwaves in my younger days. I remember watching the movie 'Where The Boys Are' in which she starred together with other popular actors and actresses. That was more than half a century ago!

RIP Ms Connie Francis.

Connie Francis, a true icon, remains a beloved figure whose voice not only defined an era but continues to evoke cherished memories of the past. I vividly recall hearing her breakthrough hit “Who’s Sorry Now” in 1958 or “Lipstick on Your Collar” in 1959, playing on the radio or Rediffusion in Singapore.

Now, over half a century later, in 2020, one of her lesser-known songs, “Pretty Little Baby,” had experienced a remarkable resurgence. It went viral on TikTok, amassing over 10 billion views. The song climbed to the top of the app’s Viral 50 and Top 50 charts, even breaking into Spotify’s Global Top 100. Billboard covered this incredible comeback on May 20, 2025.

A young man rode with his head held high
Under the Texas sun
And no one guessed that a man so blessed
Would perish by the gun
Lord, would perish by the gun
A shot rang out like a sudden shout
And Heaven held its breath
For the dreams of a multitude of man
Rode with him to his death
Lord, rode with him to his death
Yes, the heart of the world weighs heavy
With the helplessness of tears
For the man cut down in a Texas town
In the summer of his years
The summer of his years
And we who stay mustn't ever lose
The victories that he won
For wherever man look to freedom
His soul goes riding on
Lord, his soul goes riding on [In The Summer Of His Years]

This evening I was listening to American pop singer and one of the top-charting vocalists of the late 1950s and early 1960s masterpiece classic, “Three Good Reasons”, I had fond memories when I was a teenager. A few years back I met Veronica Young who was here to perform a charity event. I managed to get her autograph for my Connie Francis’ albums
👍❤️🥰..
