It's an anonymous letter from 'Matsam' but boy oh boy, one of the best written by anyone since this blog started. Just read on... But thanks Matsam for the vibrant words and phrases. You made my day.
"I was 9 years old and saw the report in the Straits Times Singapore, the next day. It was full of screaming crowds, hysterical girls fainting and carried away to ambulances and the cops joining the free fray.
My parents went ballistic, said this wretched pop music and evil personified Rolling Stones who could send people mad was a sign of the end times. I was told not to listen to corrupting pop music ever!
Well that sent me listening to all the pop I could clandestinely listen on the radio when my folks weren’t around. Nothing tastes better than stolen fruit.
Cut to the present, I’m 67, and my wife literally dances with rage, when I turn on the music loud in the house everyday. And I saw the Stones on YouTube last week when they released their new album!"

The Rolling Stones have already established themselves and as they age so does some of the tones in their voices. Sadly they are playing to the crowd that are their diehard supporters and not gathering new fans. Good on them for their success.

That's the form and substance of the song.
In pop music, as long as it sounds good, it is good.
Doesn't have to be poetic or meaningful.
What an awesome posting.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting.
Keep it up.
Yes, seen it.
ReplyDeleteSong is fine.
Not ground breaking except it by a bunch of old people.
Wow what an interesting and candid contribution from MATSAM! I'm not a fan of THE ROLLING STONES but I do like very much some of their songs, eg: AS TEARS GO BY, YOU BETTER MOVE ON, ANGIE, etc...
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing that despite their age, the STONES are still immensely popular and rocking audiences whenever they perform. Although they have been labelled STROLLING BONES, for sure they aren't!
Thanks to all who wrote in early to comment.
ReplyDeleteYes, I just love the letter from MATSAM and immediately posted it. I find the video very sensual but it's to attract a STONES audience and in today's world, many viewers could accept it. It's a little too wild for me.
I have yet to listen to the other songs on the new album.

ReplyDeleteRead MATSAM's invigorating letter! Surprising what he says... about the ROLLING STONES.

Hi DAISY! Thanks for making the first THUMBS UP... Saw the STONES video?
Koh Daisy
Yes. That was a remarkable production … superimposing the Stones’ past performances into the video. Great flashbacks.

The Rolling Stones are one of my favourite bands since I first listerned to their songs from as early 1964. I remember listening to their no. 1 song It's all over now. From there onwards, they kept producing Nos 1 hit songs in the sixties and seventies.Although their members have aged, but they are still popular with many of us who are senior citizens !
ReplyDeleteYes, FL,
ReplyDeleteWe've aged with THE STONES and happily too.
And many of their songs are dear to our hearts.
As you are with your constant support.
THANKS SO MUCH FL.
