And by the way, thank you for immortalising The Friday Girls on the post 👩.
Letter 2 From Nicole:
Hi Andy,
Here are some photos of The Friday Girls that we found while going through my aunt’s belongings:
The second photo is a card that they gave out to fans (my aunt - rightmost) and the third is a photo of my aunt and Rolana, taken when Rolana came to Singapore for a visit in 2017.
Thanks for the blog visit and writing in too. I am sorry to hear of Ms Chin's passing away. RIP Oi Min. Hope this post will make you feel better and that Rolana will read it and write to this blog.
Warm regards,
Andy.
Friday Girls and The Boys [Naomi]
Songs by this group were usually folk and a few originals written by the late ROBERT SURIYA, band leader of THE BOYS. He also played lead guitar.
The FRIDAY GIRLS were together only in 1967, recorded a few vinyl on the Philips labels, appeared on television, and performed at the National Theatre when they were at their peak. They had always been accompanied by THE BOYS.

I think they were close with ROBERT SURIYA and ALPHONSO SOOSAY.
ReplyDeleteThat's true Ivor, the BOYS accompanied them. Thanks for the piece of information.

ReplyDeleteHere's an interesting combination of music makers ie: The FRIDAY GIRLS and THE BOYS. And that includes ALPHONSO SOOSAY our percussionist...
Hey, thanks Stephen for being again the first to respond to this post. I have invited Alphonso Soosay to this post too. Let's see what he says.
A PAST LETTER:
ReplyDeleteThanks for writing in.
So glad you responded; and again condolences to you and family for having lost such a talented aunt.
May she Rest In Peace.
Do feel free to write anytime as the blog is open to anyone who has a genuine interest to tell their music stories. I would be glad to post it. But it's done in fun since the blog is neither advertorial nor supported monetarily. There isn't any payment.
Thanks Nicole.
Warm regards
Andy Young

ReplyDeleteHi ROSE KHOO and ANN ROWENA, thanks for the salutation and visit. You both love 60s music. I can understand why.
Andy Young
ReplyDeleteAlphonso Soosay thank you my friend for an interesting piece of information. The music goes on... There you go Al, now they understand why. There are many young folks reading this post too.
Buddy Andy Young. Thank You for keeping the Music Memories alive.
ReplyDeleteThe BOYS were the top selling band at Philips (Singapore):
ReplyDeleteROBERT SURIYA, lead guitarist
PETER THOMAS, rhythm guitarist
MOSES TAY, bass guitarist, keyboardist
ALPHONSO SOOSAY, drummer 🙂
The Friday Girls were also members of The Sideaislers, a 10-member singing group. When they graduated from Secondary school it marked the end of this fantastic group.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting 🤗They cud hv been ‘well known’ during their prime , but no one noticed them. Technology was ‘unknown’ then. Would be good if they could name some of their numbers as a ‘freshener’ Perhaps it may ring a bell. 👏👏👏
ReplyDeleteI am in my 80s now. I’ve heard them sing as a larger group at the Cathedral.

ReplyDeleteYes
The Boys accompanied them. Thanks Ivor.
Sorry, I've not heard of The Friday Girls group. I must say though that your blog is a godsend not only for the elderly pop music lovers but for the younger gens too.
ReplyDeleteFrom enabling readers to reminisce about their younger days, share their personal stories on your blog and for some, (yours truly included), reconnect with long lost friends. We can't thank you enough.
