Anders Nelsson, from his Facebook page: "I'm devastated to hear that one of my best friends... passed away... Rest In Peace dear Andrew!" An ex-saxophonist with The Establishment Mr. Oh became one with Nelsson's Gingerbread.
Sean Whittington: The Sunday Mail remarked, "Move over Kenny G, there's a new star saxophonist on the block - and he lives down under!"
Mr Oh had performed with international stars like Al Jarreau, The Bee Gees, Cher, Elaine Paige, John Denver, Roberta Flack, Sammy Davis Jr., Tommy Emmanuel, The Supremes and other great names.
RIP Mr Andrew Oh. Condolences to your immediate family.

RIP Andrew
ReplyDeleteVery sad, you know how it happened?
ReplyDeleteApparently, he went to buy a cup of coffee, walked out of the shop and collapsed, massive heart attack. A friend spoke to him only a few days ago.
[this comment is unverified and has been edited. will pick it up soon.]
He was one or two years my junior at ST Patrick's School and also in the School Band.
ReplyDeleteHe's about my age and in his early 70's.
He was a very nice chap at school.
An international name in music but the "music authorities' here probably never knew of him and his fame.
And if I can recall, Andrew Oh started off here with a Singapore band called, THE BEE JAYS a band that formed around the Katong area.
Thanks to who sent their condolences early...
ReplyDeleteWatch Mr Oh's YOUTUBE videos.
There are so many.

Played with Andrew at Harry’s Bar at Boat Quay when he came back to visit in the early 2000s. Recently asked him if he was keen to record with his band playing in the 1970s in Singapore called Pink and Purple, to which he declined as the original American singer is no longer contactable.

According to multi-instrumentalist Bill Wong, his late dad's 'Top Notes' big band at Southern Cabaret, featured a young saxophonist/flutist named ANDREW OH.
ReplyDeleteI don't really know him, but I know he is the other international class musician from Singapore in Sydney and Rex's very good friend. RIP Andrew and condolence to his family.
