Congrats to Andy. What a great feat! Your blog is a great achievement. I just couldn't remember how I came to know your blog ! It has been many years since. Once I got the "kick" I continue to visit your blog constantly. Once again, a big thank you to you. Your blog keeps me in good company, too !
ReplyDeleteThanks so much FL.
ReplyDeleteYou are one of my most precious readers, and like you mentioned, it's been quite a number of years that you have been supporting this blog.
For your readership FL, with your heartfelt recognition, I am most grateful.
This is Andy Young aka Andy Lim who is not only a wonderful singer but also a prolific writer. Do visit his music of the 60s blog and you’ll like it immediately. It contains interesting and good information on local and international recording stars. You won’t be bored because there are quizzes for you to solve too.
ReplyDeleteAndy,
ReplyDeleteYour blog will be considered a very important account on music of the 60's, especially in Singapore. Its history, the musicians and the bands, the songs they sang, it's all on your blog. Very nostalgic for those who lived through their heydays ad reference material for those after.
It is a reminder to the young that their ye-ye, gong-gong, ah-ma and por-por (grandparents) were young once and lived the the era of rock ad roll, jazz, rhythm ad blues and danced to The Twist and sang to The Young Ones. Indeed, those were the days, my friend.
Today, we often get news of a passing of a local music luminary. Who carries the torch? So please live live a long and healthy life, Andy! I wish you umor panjang, sehat dan kuat (long life, healthy and strong).
Merely speaking the truth. Your blog is an important document and I believe it is acknowledged as such.
LIKE TO WORK ON YOUR OUTREACH PROGRAMME ON THE GOOD OLD DAYS OF OUR LOCAL MUSIC NETWORK.
ReplyDeleteHi Andy Young,
ReplyDeleteI salute you for keeping the historic chronology of Singapore music events and activities alive. You have faithfully kept the archive for years beginning in the 60s when it all began. Your work is very important because it holds the identity of a nation through its music.
I wish you long life and continue to do the good work for later generations to appreciate the golden years and heritage of the previous generations.
Hi Andy,
ReplyDeleteWe are fortunate to have you so passionate to keep a blog for the music in our earlier years. Without it nothing is on record and our music heritage will be limited to those in our national archives.
A salute to your enthusiasm in keeping us informed on the music scene in those days and to keep in contact with some of the local music makers in those years.
Hi Andy,
ReplyDeleteIt is an achievement to be able to sustain the interest of even 2000 people a month on a regular basis on any given topic. What you have done could not be the result of a faint heart or a lame endeavour. It takes passion and consistency to incessantly create stories that your international readership can relate to and is stimulating enough to make them keep coming back to your blog for more.
Your enthusiasm for your work makes the difference! Without it, there would be no zest! Like Coke without the bubbles! Flat! On behalf of all your readers, I wish to appeal to you to not even consider stopping your very fine work but to keep up with your enthusiasm for your unique blog.
I am still hopeful that one day soon, the relevant authority in SG would officially recognize your work! It is strange but nonetheless true, no prophet will find acceptance in his own country! A case in point, recently the Australians conferred an award on Matthew Tan for his contributions to Country Music.
I am of the view that it is SG that should have taken the initiative for such an award! Of course not only for Matthew but for other iconic local musicians as well, like Henry Chua and others!
Be that as it may, here's wishing you continued success in all your efforts to preserve our music heritage!
God bless!
Hi Andy I'm producing a mediacorp show, with an episode on music. We would love to talk to you. Could you please let me know how to get in touch? Otherwise you can email me at the email add attached to my comment.
ReplyDeleteHi Pink Movie,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the mail.
I don't see any email address attached.
Perhaps you can write in again with the email address on the letter itself.
I shall not post it.
Many people have not heard of the expression, No man is an island. They do not think of leaving a heritage. They only live for themselves. Unlike for example... like what you are doing for others through your present MUSIC BLOG. It will be remembered for perpetuity that is when you are long gone... people outside your own family will remember you as the creator of this music blog.
ReplyDeleteWhereas in my case only my immediate family members will, hopefully, remember me from time to time... By comparison your music blog will go on as long as there is music. That's why I was glad you did not let a local organisation take over your music blog when they approached you some years ago.
Well done my friend! This blog is your niche. No one can take it away. God Bless you my brother! Am proud of you!
"He spends most of his free time writing a blog. He writes about all sorts of things, ranging from music, to poems, to his personal life experiences, and therefore it has surpassed over 3 million views..."

Hey Andy,
ReplyDeleteIt's our honor and privilege to be able to have you share your story with us on VintageRadioSG. Through VintageRadioSG and the programs like Music And Me, it is our hope that it will help listeners relive their past and for the younger ones, to have a better idea of where they came from in order to figure out where they will be headed in life. Singapore has a rich history, albeit shorter than most countries, but it is ours and ours to share. Credit also to you and your efforts in playing your part to keep it alive.
As I was going through your music/sayings posters I had the sudden thought that you, Andy, being a scholar of English Literature would remember a prose poem by Max Hermann named " Desiderata" which was sung/spoken by Les Crane in 1971.
ReplyDeleteI feel these words are so relevant to the present times both in human behaviour and emotions. " Go placidly amidst the noise and the haste.... Strive to be happy"

I go through your fabulous blog whenever I get the chance. Its a comfort zone for nostalgia buffs like me. Thank goodness for the Internet that's changed almost everyone's lives in creating a global village with communication at the touch of our fingers.
ReplyDeleteThese comments are genuine honest to goodness feelings. I have never asked from any reader, family or friend for compliments to be published specially on this blog.
ReplyDeleteThey all came from the heart. Thank you guys.

Thanks for bringing back the roots of Singapore music history. A lot of young Singaporeans do not know about the history of Singapore music. I think its important to understand the roots in Singapore music. This blog is a good reference for music lovers who want to know about music made in Singapore. (2010)
ReplyDeleteYour blog requires lots of thinking, remembering and reminiscing which 'rejuvenate' your grey cells - thus also your outlook in life?
ReplyDeleteHi Andy!
ReplyDeleteThanks for republishing the article. A great story on Mr Tan! His popularity from all who knew him also drew attention to the stories of local musicians you have in your blog. I cannot believe that since the story was published in 2016, you now have almost 3,000,000 viewers and your blog has been ranked today as one of the best Singapore Music Blogs.
Congratulations and Thank You!
You are a man who not only know so many but also have a story to tell on each one of them.
Dear Andy,
ReplyDeleteI love the interesting and often unusual themes you come up with. I can think of two more moon tunes: "Moon Dawg!" by The Gamblers, and "I See The Moon (The Moon Sees Me)" by a female singer.
Keep on blogging!
Best wishes.
26 June, 2013.
Hi Andy,
ReplyDeleteFirstly, congratulations on the huge success of your blog, what with readership reaching far and wide as evidenced by the stats.
Well done bro'... thumbs up :)
