DPM Tharman Shanmugaratnam, in his usual cool and unhurried way, could have browsed through this blog after I provided him with a copy of the Tharman Quotes Elvis article last week on Facebook.
I have never sent a posting to any VIP, let alone a VVIP. It was my first time. But below is his encouraging reply.
Thank you very much, DPM.
Sunday 4 November 2018 4.47pm. Dear Andy, Thanks for sharing the blog post with me. Your whole blog is most interesting. It adds to the memories of those of us who grew up with the music of the era. Best wishes, TS.

Mr. Tharman S. Quotes Elvis Presley Article:
Good for you brother.
ReplyDeleteHe is right. It's interesting, educational, facts and life as it was back then. Nothing sugar-coated, all told as it happened, the truth nothing but the truth Andy.

Hi old kawan, as I posted not too long ago, your Music Blog is probably the most interesting and comprehensive Blog about music of the 60's-70's in Sg...today. Not at all surprised that someone like DPM Tharman connected so nicely with you. He is truly a down to earth person, no airs at all. You...sama,sama. Cheers !
ReplyDeleteAndy...

ReplyDeletekeep up the good work to reach out to those who love n enjoy the 60s music!
Hi Rose,
ReplyDeleteYes was watching him one night during an economic forum. In the end, Prof Tommy Koh quoted Bob Dylan in reply to DPM's Elvis quote earlier. I nearly fell off my couch.
Never in my years as a Singaporean have I heard an MP who knows pop music, let alone a DPM. He's an all-rounder, Mr Tharman, a good soul man, respected by the world economic community too.
That's why I had to write about his wonderful quote from Elvis when he tells the group, "A little less conversation... more action please."
Thanks, Rose for giving me your platform.

ReplyDeleteYou deserve it. Coming from DPM (thumbs up).
A class above.
So happy Tharman finds your blog interesting.
ReplyDeleteI want him to be PM.
gosh , with a hip cat like him ...quoting elvis, and others quoting dylan. wouldn't it have been awesome had these hip dudes been around in our hey days. perharps, horace wee, me, amir, would still be playing together spotting long hair and all.
ReplyDeletebut that was yesterday and yesterday's gone!
i heard from dear horace of amir's passing into the great beyond. he is jamming with jimi, elvis, even chopin and beethoven.
as for me, i am still recording one new song every couple of days, to leave a legacy when it is time for me too, to join jimi , miles, B.B.,etc
come listen to my channel..https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jhU0FXL_HPU&list=UUlODf7yR41gkAMO1dUD_98w
i have in 2 years accumulated 190 songs, all performed by me on guitar/guiitar/bass/vocals and percs.
104 original / 59 covers
the latest being my first original this month, "If You Love..Love Strong".
uploaded last night (cda time 8pm) also on fandalsim, an indie musician site, my favorite site to contribute because it is purely for musicians.
https://fandalism.com/mattjsltan. it just garnered me 197 views at this moment (2 pm cda time)from both musicians and fans alike. i think that is my best one day ever to date.
I AM TAKING THIS OPPORTUNITY TO DEDICATE THIS TO AMIR. have a safe voyage to the great beyond my brother. the last drummer i played with before leaving Spore.
yes, it was with Horace Wee at his Brimstone Studio for a LP by Reverend Jim Michin of New Zealnd.
I wish DPM all the best. For the future of young rock and rollers , may this be a good omen to bring back the music of 60s-70s before the music died.
