It's been revived by Trudi Lalor, a talented lady from Ireland, UK. Inspired by Louise Morrissey, Ms Lalor is one of the top young country singers in the UK and Irish music scene today. Garth Brooks was very much impressed by her performance when he visited Ireland.
She's really good, a vibrant voice with clarity and charm, singing the folksy quick waltz with an Irish lilt. Hooray.
*Many readers could not find the lyrics, so here's my service to all friends and viewers. I copied it off YouTube and the song is composed by Billy Morrissey.
(There may be some words which are wrong, so let me know.)
Old Friends Are Best
I always remember when I was young
Through words, my father would say
Be kind to the people you meet in this life
And help them along on their way
For each has their trouble and their own can of woes
And each has a story to tell
A good wish, a smile, a kind word or two
Will help to brighten their day
Chorus:
Old friends are best
That's what the old folks say
When put to the test
Old friends are best
They'll stand by you come what may
Repeat:
(You'll be my old friend someday)
New friends are fine but like a good wine
They only get better with age
In the blink of an eye and years, all go by
With every turn of life's page
Trouble and strife, we'll meet in good life
And we all must go on till the end
But in good times or bad, happy or sad
There is nobody like an old friend.

Yes, old friends are best!
ReplyDeleteAs the saying goes:
Make new friends, keep the old,
One's silver, the other's gold.
Bravo!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful voice, clarity
Cheers, old buddy.
THANKS!
ReplyDeleteTHUMBS UP.
Wow! thank you.
ReplyDeleteYou know Paul has reminded me of the Bible, that Jesus mentioned, most times friends are much better than family members.
It's very true indeed. Always stay positive in life; makes everything sweeter.
The singer damn good voice.
You are one too, Andy.
ReplyDeleteTHUMBS UP!
ReplyDeleteTruly so. Thank you Old Friend.
ReplyDeleteNice voice too.
Connect with old friends, and also make new ones along the way.
ReplyDeleteOkay ,i will be your old best friend ... agree Andrew Young... heeeee !!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Andy
ReplyDeletea very beautiful song with sound advice. Good friends are like fine wine the age well and taste best when mature, however bad friends are like bad wine, the turn into vinegar with age. Treasure and enjoy the company of the good ones especially the true ones and discard the other - the bad ones - or at best keep them as acquaintances. New friends are interesting as they bring about new experiences.
Cheerio have a nice weekend.
Thanks, Ms Koh and Michael for your constant support. Yes, you are both right about old friends. And Michael, I enjoy the company of sincere friends. You will realise after some time if they are sincere. Glad you like the song. :-)
ReplyDeleteMany thanks to the others who wrote in. In life, we need friends. Very true.

ReplyDeleteTHANKS SO MUCH UNKNOWN FOR SUCH A SENSITIVE COMMENT.
ReplyDeleteDO VISIT THIS BLOG AGAIN.
For lyrics just google and you can find it. But finding the chords to go with it is difficult!
ReplyDeleteThe chord progression consists of four basic chords:
ReplyDeleteC major - C
G major - G
A minor - Am
F major - F
Depending of course what key you're singing in.
Hi Andy,
ReplyDeleteThanks for all these.
May I please request you to provide the entire chord sheet for the song "Old Friends Are Best, Trudi Lalor". I am relatively new to guitar and I have no issues playing the melodies. I have started with the harmony and I am loving it now (initially did not like much because of the fear of losing the melody in the chaos - lol :). My email is: awaal_oastad@yahoo.com.
Cheers and kind regards.
Awaal
