SINGAPORE POP MUSIC
Singapore has many good and accomplished drummers. Below are pictures of 10 of them from the 1960's circuit. Most of my readers can do this quiz blindfolded. Come on, guys. It's too easy.
I must mention that these drummers with their bands are recording artistes and they all would have cut a single or an EP vinyl. If you have been reading this blog, they would have been mentioned using the same pictures.
Do you know who they are and from what bands they were from?
3) The band name may help in recognising him. One of the earliest in the group. Thanks to Zainal Abidin for the information.
4) With this stylish group from the early 60's to the late 80's, he has since passed on. Thanks to Randy Lee for the information.
5) Another handsome gentleman who's as popular as his solid-sound guitar group. Check him out.
7) A friendly guy who is an expert with sound, our drummer is a writer now.
He's on Facebook today.
8) A quiet man but still as active, he lets his drums do the talking. The group name is a definite giveaway.
So there you are readers. Fun and games. Just write your answers on the comment page. I'm also on Facebook under Andy Young 60's Music.
Selamat Hari Raya Aidil Fitri to my Muslim friends and readers.

ReplyDeleteDanny... currently with Thunderbirds... great guy!
ReplyDeleteGene Krupa of Benny Goodman, Wee Guan of the Quest, Buddy Rich of his own band, Sandy Nelson, Cosy Cole and Art Blakey. Also Rufino Soliano of RTS and Louis Soliano and his own band.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Stephen. The quiz is actually on the local drummers. You need to click the connection to my blog.
ReplyDeleteAlso Thanks to others for early comments. Appreciate. No answers so far.
The first drummer is Victor Lam. The other known is, of course, Lim Wee Guan. One person missing John Cher.
ReplyDeleteHahaha. Cheers Fabian! Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteIf I had put John Cher's name and pix, the quiz would have been too easy. After his appearance on TV recently, he's now an international star, not only a Singapore one. :-) I have also forgotten to mention, all these drummers and the bands they were with, were recording artistes.
ReplyDeleteWhat about Richard Khan of the Surfers later renamed October Cherries.
ReplyDeleteYes, I shall do another quiz and put his name. Thanks all for checking out this quiz.

Good Morning Andy
ReplyDeleteHere I am with my morning read on Andy's blog.
Ahem Andy ...here's a teen drummer prodigy in Singapore of the 60s that you forgot to mention.
He was the first in Singapore to perfect the drum roll introduction for the Surfari's "Wipeout" and the rimshot for the Venture's "Walk Don't Run" in the 60s. Just ask Luis Suliano.
I am sending his picture to your email for the Jeopardy question to your readers...
Hi Henri,
ReplyDeleteFrom my introduction.
I must mention that these drummers with their bands are recording artistes and they all would have cut a single or an EP vinyl. If you have been reading this blog, they would have been mentioned using the same pictures.
To be fair to you and also to me: The quiz has a few factors you may not have noticed. They were featured based on the fact that they were:
1) Singapore recording artistes - all drummers have cut vinyl, most sold well.
2) have their pictures on record covers (pix were taken mostly from covers).
You didn't have
1) a recording on any label
2) a pix on any cover
I didn't "forget to mention." I remember. Only that you were not in the particular category.
Hope you understand.
