Richard Anthony passed away on 19.04.2015.
Romanticism At Its Most Eager
Richard Anthony:
Many music lovers are aware of Ray Anthony the 1950's famous band leader and trumpeter. Shakespearean lovers would be aware of Mark Antony, Caesar's loyal friend in the play who was also with Cleopatra.
Not many though would remember Richard Anthony, the French singer who recorded a song that I love, even till today.
This song by Richard Anthony from this treasured album ‘Music Makers’ is like wine. The older it gets, the better it sounds. Another song comes to mind when I still listen to album, bought 30 years ago, Brother Andy.
Still remember my second elder brother and myself used to stand on my Dad’s feet when we were kids and he would dance us around to this song when we live in Hindhede Drive in the sixties. Dad and my brother George are both gone now.. but I still have my memories.
Andy Young Fred Ching hi, must always thank you for your support with my blog postings as your comments complement them very well indeed.
I'm so sorry to hear that your dad and brother have both passed away. If the song has touched your heart... 👍❤. It's readers and friends like you that keep me going... In so many ways you're a music maker too.
Andy Young Koh Daisy hi, it was a 1963 song. Not sure how high it reached the Top 10 but love it so much and spins in my head even today. Daisy, thank you.
Koh Daisy Andy there was another song that I recall. Starts like this: “Put another nickel in …. Music music music. “It was the introduction to one of the Rediffusion radio programs.
Andy Young Koh Daisy yes! A pop hit indeed. Love it. Thanks...
My name is Etienne from Austria, Europe. I just stumbled upon your blog by accident from a post from January 22, 2009: "Asian Record Labels You Might Not Notice"
This might be the wrong post for it but since it`s the latest, I wanted to comment on here. I am quite new to the Singaporean sound of the 60s and you helped me find some interesting new artists and labels (especially your bands Swallows and Silver Strings). Unfortunately there was not too much I could find online but what I heard was amazing.
If you're open to it, I would love to connect with you further on this topic. Your knowledge and expertise would undoubtedly be invaluable to someone like myself, eager to delve deeper into the world of Singaporean music from that era.
Wishing you all the best, and please continue the excellent work on your blog!
[1] I'm fine with answering your query but I am no expert.
[2] I received a few scam letters so if you could tell me more about yourself, and in details too; and why you like to 'delve deeper' into the topic, I'd be glad to help.
I shall write to you using your email address and will not publish your personal letter after your reply.
Koh Daisy Thanks Andy for the connections. Enjoyed the songs esp “Till I Waltz Again With You” by T Brewer and her other songs . Love the videos from the Ed Sullivan Show especially the Elvis segments. These will keep me entertained for sometime. Thanks a bunch!
Andy Young Koh Daisy you are welcome. Thanks for your comments. They help a lot to keep these FB chats alive.

I must thank Richard Rajoo for starting a conversation here.
ReplyDeleteA fine guitarist, he lets his fingers do the talking most times.
Omg I love this!
ReplyDeleteAn old song I remember well in my youth. Used to sing it along with Richard Anthony when it came on the radio. What memories.
