The sexy sixties are making the headlines again as four celebrities and a vinyl record format dominate the pages of newspapers today.
First things first. Burt Bacharach and Hal David (right images), song-writing gurus of that golden decade have been honoured with the US top award for pop music as each received the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song. As President Obama presented the award, Stevie Wonder and other stars provided entertainment at a grand White House concert. Most of us seniors remember their songs like, I Say A Little Prayer, Close To You, Raindrops Keep Falling, Walk On By and others. They both wrote well over 100 songs.
And lastly we say a fond farewell to Vidal Sassoon (left)who had passed on at 84 years young. He was well known for his salons, styling schools and with mini skirt queen Mary Quant perfected the bob styled for ladies. He toppled the beehive and other tower hairdos as the Sassoon bob (left image) and other creations became the rage both in London and internationally. Mr Sassoon died of leukaemia. Can you ever beat the 60s?Comment anyone?
We'll discuss the 60s Extended Play format favoured by Singapore pop groups in the next posting.
