And once again there is little to no information about someone that gave disco one of it's most enduring hits.

Best known for her 1978 international dancefloor hit "Hot Shot," Philadelphian Karen Young initially debuted in 1969 with a U.K. hit, "Nobody's Child."

The disco era allowed her to resurface after a long hiatus, and she went on to record a number of disco and rock-oriented singles until the mid-'80s, shortly before her untimely death.

Her recordings for West End, Atlantic, Sunshine, Ariola, and Boardwalk Records are among some of disco's most enduring classics.

The content spans surefire disco, "Hot Shot," "Dynamite," and the saucy "Baby You Ain't Nothin' (Without Me)," bluesy ballads (a cover of Sam Cooke's) "A Change Is Gonna Come," AOR "One Sure Way," and pop/rock "Deetour" and "Expressway To Your Heart."

Her most consistent numbers are the dance ones, benefiting from Young's peppy delivery and Walter Kahn's clever production.

The more rock-style entries suffer from arrangements lacking in direction in most cases, though "Expressway" is notable for its meshing of a bright, R&B horn arrangement and rock guitars.

However, Young's enthusiastic improved and heartfelt style are the strongest aspects throughout.

Karen's health problems plagued here throughout her career and in January of 1991 she succumbed to a ruptured stomach at the young age of 39.

Her raspy, often growling voice is missed. But thanks to her million-selling hit "Hot Shot" she lives on in our hearts and ears!

http://artists.letssingit.com/karen-young-3x6mk/biographyLet's Sing Ithttp://artists.letssingit.com/karen-young-3x6mk/biographynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3574244939174327228.post-60899474337330882562011-10-02T22:10:43.238+08:002011-10-02T22:10:43.238+08:00Enjoy the song...
