Casey Kasem Retires From US Pop Countdown

DJs Alan Freed (deceased), Dick Clark and Casey Kasem were big names in the radio industry in the US and were part of the 60s and 70s music scene. Kasem, who began the weekend of July 4, 1970 will close the American Top 20 countdown after 39 years.
Kasem used the same statement when asked about his retirement, "Keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars." His personality on radio, when counting backwards, kept listeners all over the pop music world glued to the loudspeaker. He was also the voice of Shaggy in the Scooby Doo cartoons.
Singapore's Rediffusion used to broadcast Kasem's American Top 40 programme on Saturday afternoons. He was a household name like Larry Lai and Mike Ellery and perhaps, he still is?
