And so the local bands sprouted all over our little island like soya beans. You name them we have them. The names were special indeed, SILVER STRINGS, VELVETONES, SWALLOWS, DUKES, THUNDERBIRDS, FIREBIRDS, QUESTS, MYSTERIANS, STYLERS as the list goes on.
They played the same kind of music with the same kind of beat.
But then if you believe in evolution, these bands grew and recorded their own songs and as vinyls were cut and played and scratched so did the music but they all had that generational beat of the west.
There was originality but it was within the confines of western pops.

I kind of like the names they called themselves-expressive and imaginative. Wonder how they came up with such names e.g. why did they call themselves The Silver Strings? What's the story Andy? From Richard.
As an example, The 'Quests' were named after the members' school motto at Queenstown Secondary. Audie loved 'Silver Strings' because it rolled off his tongue easily. It has much sophistication too as some classical groups has the same name.
I added the alliteration, 'sensational', 'swinging' in all our write-ups for the souvenir magazines.
I am not sure how other groups got their names. Anyone familiar?
Oops, typo error: "as some classical groups HAVE the same name..."
A guitar group in the U.K. for example had their name taken from a guitar amplifier they just bought so they called themselves, "The Vibrons".
